Lucy – Before & After

Are you happy with your smile?

Tooth whitening is a safe, simple but amazing way of transforming the brightness of your smile which can be discoloured due to food, drink, smoking and ageing. Often, it may be all that is required to help you smile with confidence again.

However, a combination of air polishing with tooth whitening can boost the process or veneers may be your preferred choice or more suitable option.

Here at Eccleshill, we have a number of solutions to help you achieve a beautiful white smile. More about our tooth whitening options below:

Eccleshill Tailored Cosmetic Tooth Whitening - £383

This option includes custom made trays which can be used more than once. We recommend this option if you want to choose to top up your treatment in the future, particularly if you enjoy drinking tea, coffee and red wine or any dark coloured food/drink that may re-stain your teeth over a period of time.

The gel we provide is directed by your lifestyle so you can choose if you wish to whiten overnight or through the day.

Day whitening gel contains hydrogen peroxide which shouldn’t be worn for more than 2 hours.

Night whitening gel contains carbomide peroxide which is gentler and works by converting to hydrogen peroxide slowly once applied.

Carbon peroxide is usually preferred due to the longer shelf-life and our cosmetic dentists recommend this if a top-up programme is your preference.

Enlighten Evolution Cosmetic Whitening - From £650

Our practice has been accredited as an Enlighten Regional Centre of Excellence

Enlighten has been called the biggest breakthrough in Tooth Whitening in the last 15 years

It is the only system in the world to guarantee that the teeth will get to a “VITA shade B1” which is the whitest shade on a regular dentist shade guide
The teeth look really naturally white after the treatment – unlike treatment where porcelain is used like veneers or crowns

The breakthrough is that the guarantee applies to every single patient regardless of starting colour, age, lifestyle or dietary habits
The patient wears the trays for 14 nights and then visits the dentist on the 15th day for a 40 minute in surgery session.

Results last indefinitely as long as you wear the trays 6 nights a year after your treatment. There aren’t even any special dietary instructions so you can keep drinking coffee and red wine

There have been many celebrity clients including several high profile models and pop stars.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is tooth whitening?

Frequently drinking or eating dark and rich coloured food and liquid can stain teeth. If can also be caused by smoking, taking antibiotics as well as simply being part of the aging process. Other factors may be due to tooth decay, nerve damage and plaue build up which can also discolour teeth.

Tooth whitening is a method used by cosmetic dentists to improve or enhance the tooth colour of teeth through a bleaching process.

Q. What tooth whitening treatments are available?

Tooth whitening options come in the form of home-kits or professional bleaching by a dentist, either through internal or external whitening. Teeth whitening kits that can be bought in shops or online may not necessarily be the best option for you and many do not provide the results seen with professional bleaching. In addition, there may be other dental or medical health reasons that cause your teeth to discolour which can only be assessed by a Professional, thereby ensuring you receive the most appropriate and effective programme of dental care and whitening.

Q. How does tooth whitening work?

Tooth whitening gels contain hydrogen or carbamide peroxide which is applied to the teeth using a tray fitted to your teeth. The gels release oxygen as they disintegrate and this lightens the teeth. Home kits work in a similar way but they are not as effective and can take much longer to see any results. Excessive use of peroxide can cause damage to teeth and gums. Professional Dentists assess the safest product for you to use personally after assessing the health of your teeth and gums and should advise on the safest product and frequency.

External professional whitening is when a dentist makes a try to fit your teeth and shows you how to apply the gel. This is a custom made kit that enables teeth whitening to be carried out professionally at home. Internal professional bleaching is for patients who have discoloured teeth resulting from successful root treatment for removal of a damaged nerve. A hole is drilled into the affected tooth and the bleach is put inside. External whitening can also be used on the same tooth after internal treatment to reach the desired result.

Q. Does tooth whitening hurt?

Tooth whitening doesn’t hurt if it is done by a Professional Cosmetic Dentist who will advise and show you of the correct amount of product to use to protect the gum. Internal whitening doesn’t cause any pain because the nerve has been removed.

Q. Who does the tooth whitening procedure?

Our resident cosmetic dentist will meet with you with a view to examining your teeth and gums and discuss your tooth whitening needs and options. A further appointment will be made with the same dentist to take impressions of your teeth if appropriate to have the custom made trays made. We will make a further appointment for you in 1-2 weeks time when your trays arrive so the dentist can check the trays fit correctly before starting tooth whitening that day.

Q. How do I care for my teeth after treatment?

Minimising your intake of things that discolour your teeth i,e, drinking coffee, red wine and smoking is recommended. You should also attend for regular examinations of your gums and teeth and maintain the recommended oral hygiene standards. Dental hygiene appointments are key in preventative dentistry and should be part of everybody’s regular programme of dental health.

Q. Is there any reason why I might not be able to have tooth whitening?

Whitening gels can irritate damaged teeth and gums and also prevent healing. Gum disease and tooth decay should always be treated before tooth whitening is considered.

Q. Can I have my teeth whitened when I’m pregnant?

Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should avoid tooth whitening due to the possible effect of the gel on the growing child.

Q. What if I have crowns or veneers?

Tooth whitening will not lighten crowns, veneers or dentures. We advise patients who want to have teeth whitening to proceed with a view to replacing crowns, veneers or dentures to match the new shade of the your lighter coloured teeth.

Q. How long does tooth whitening last?

It varies based on your life-style choices, diet, overall health and oral hygiene. Some products are more effective so may last longer but our cosmetic dentists will advise on the most appropriate and safe method. Remember that if you go ahead with custom made trays then the dentist will advise on the top up whitening methods to help you maintain your new smile.

Q. What are the costs of tooth whitening?

The cost depends on the most appropriate and type of tooth whitening procedure which can be discussed when you meet one of our cosmetic dentists. They will work with you to understand your preferences and advise on the most appropriate method to help you achieve the results you desire.
